People nearby (radar)

The radar lists everyone around you, how far away they are and what they're doing, and can tell you when people arrive or leave. It is Firestorm's radar.

Open it with Communicate → Radar. The same list is on the NEARBY tab of the People window (Communicate → Nearby people).

The list

The line above the list says how many avatars there are, how many are in your region and how many are in chat range. Click a column heading to sort by it.

Column What it shows
Name The person's name.
Voice How loudly they're speaking on voice (loudest first).
• They're in your region; highlighted if they're on your parcel.
✎ They're typing.
↧ They're sitting.
$ Whether they have payment information on file ($) or have used it ($$).
Notes You've written notes about them in their profile.
Age Account age, in days.
Seen How long since they arrived.
Range Distance in metres.

Filter People finds someone by name. Tick Range at the bottom and use the slider to only list people within that many metres of you.

Right-click a person for the usual actions: profile, IM, call, teleport offers and requests, Zoom In, Teleport To, Map, Track, pay, block, report, render settings (Render Normally, Do Not Render, Render Fully), and land or estate tools if you manage the land. Copy copies their name, SLurl or UUID.

Arrival and departure alerts

The radar can tell you when people come and go. In the options menu, tick any of:

  • Report Entering Chat Range / Report Leaving Chat Range (within 20 m, so they can read your chat).
  • Report Entering Draw Range / Report Leaving Draw Range (within your draw distance).
  • Report Entering your Region / Report Leaving your Region.
  • Report Avatar Age Alert: tells you when a very new account (7 days old or less) arrives.

All of these are off by default.

Report To chooses where alerts appear: Nearby Chat (a line only you can see; the default) or Notification Toasts (pop-ups). Alert Sounds adds a sound to any of them.

The chat-range alerts are also in Me → Preferences → Chat → Alerts.

Alerts for scripts

Report Enter Alerts to Scripts and Report Exit Alerts to Scripts also tell your own scripted objects (such as a greeter HUD) who arrived or left, on a private channel. Leave them off unless a script you use asks for them.

Advanced

Debug settings: NearMeRange (radar range in metres, default 162), RadarAvatarAgeAlertValue (age alert threshold in days, default 7), RadarAlertChannel (the script channel).
