Appearance and outfits¶
How to change what you're wearing, save outfits, and adjust your shape and hover height.
The Appearance window¶
Open it with Avatar → My outfits… (or right-click yourself → My Outfits…). It has three tabs:
| Tab | What it's for |
|---|---|
| OUTFIT GALLERY | Your saved outfits as pictures. |
| MY OUTFITS | Your saved outfits as a list, sorted into folders if you like. |
| WEARING | What you have on right now. Save changes updates the current outfit, Save as… saves it as a new one. |
Putting on an outfit¶
Select an outfit in MY OUTFITS and use the gear (⚙) menu or right-click:
| Command | What it does |
|---|---|
| Replace current outfit | Takes off what you're wearing and puts on the outfit. Also Wear at the bottom of the tab. |
| Add outfit items | Puts the outfit's items on as well as what you're wearing. |
| Take off outfit items | Removes just this outfit's items. |
| Image… | Sets the picture shown in the gallery. |
| Add to favorite outfits | Marks the outfit as a favourite. |
| Rename outfit, Save to this outfit, Delete outfit | Manage the outfit. |
Search outfits by name with the filter box at the top; it searches every folder.
Saving an outfit¶
Dress the way you like, then on the WEARING tab click Save as…, type a name and choose a folder. Outfits are made of links to your items, so saving an outfit doesn't copy anything.
Changing what you wear¶
- From your inventory: double-click, or right-click → Wear / Add. Inventory settings choose whether double-clicking clothing replaces or adds.
- Avatar → Now wearing… lists what you have on.
- Avatar → Take off removes clothing or attachments by type; Avatar → Remove selected attachments removes the attachments you've selected.
Editing an outfit¶
Avatar → Edit outfit parts… (or the edit button at the top of the Appearance window) shows the items in your current outfit. Add More… finds items in your inventory to add; select one and click Wear Item. Click an item to edit it, if you have modify permission. Save changes, Save as… and Undo Changes are at the bottom.
Shape and body¶
Avatar → Edit shape… opens the shape sliders (body, head, face and so on). Change them, then Save, Save As a new shape, or Undo Changes. Most people today wear a mesh body and head, and use their maker's HUD instead; the shape still controls height and proportions.
Hover height¶
If your feet float or sink into the ground, use Avatar → Hover height… (or the Hover height slider in Quick Preferences) to move your avatar up or down. Everyone sees the change.
When your appearance looks wrong¶
- To you: try Refresh Textures and Refresh Animations.
- To other people (grey, blurry or wrong skin): use Advanced → Rebake Textures (turn on the Advanced menu in Me → Preferences → Advanced).
- Stretched or twisted limbs: Avatar → Reset skeleton.
The classic built-in body can be hidden for everyone you see with Show system avatar bodies in Me → Preferences → Move & View.
