Preferences: Advanced

Me → Preferences → Advanced has the caches, interface size, hover tips and a few other options. The tab scrolls.

Caches

Slipstream keeps downloaded textures, sounds, meshes and so on on your disk, so places you've been load faster next time.

Option What it does
Cache size Disk space for the main cache, from 896 MB to 262144 MB (256 GB). The default is 16384 MB (16 GB). Bigger means fewer re-downloads when you go back somewhere.
Clear Cache Empties all the caches (on the next restart), including the sound and GPU-ready texture caches. Try this if textures or objects keep looking wrong.
Cache location The folder the cache is kept in. Browse picks another folder (for example on a bigger or faster drive); Default Location goes back to the standard one.
Sound cache location, Sound cache size, Keep decoded sounds between sessions See Sound cache.
GPU-ready texture cache, Texture cache size, Texture copies in RAM See Video memory.

Interface

UI size Makes the whole interface bigger or smaller.
HUD Scale Makes HUDs bigger or smaller.

Show Advanced Menu Adds the Advanced menu to the menu bar.
Show Develop Menu Adds the Develop menu, with tools for testing and troubleshooting. Most people never need it.
Remembered Usernames Manage the usernames remembered on the login screen.
Default Creation Permissions The permissions new objects, uploads and scripts get.
Import from Another Viewer… Bring settings and chat history over from another viewer. See Importing from another viewer.
Accurate rigged mesh picking How clicks and hover tips work on worn mesh (bodies, clothing) and animesh. See below.

Accurate rigged mesh picking

This decides whether clicking someone's mesh body, clothes or an animesh hits exactly what you see.

Option What it does
Off Worn mesh and animesh can't be clicked; avatars are picked by a rough invisible shape.
With ray tracing (default) Exact clicking, free when you use any ray-traced setting. Without ray tracing, it still works for clickable worn items (touch-scripted attachments) and animesh.
Always (slower without RT) Exact clicking on every worn mesh, always. Without ray tracing this can cost a few milliseconds per frame in crowds on slower graphics cards.
