Privacy Policy
Slipstream doesn't collect any data about you. It has no telemetry, analytics or usage tracking, and it doesn't send anything about you to us.
The viewer
- No telemetry. Slipstream never sends usage data, crash reports or anything else about you or your computer to Bluefast Studios or anyone else on our behalf. Logs and crash information stay on your computer unless you choose to send them in a bug report.
- Update check. Once a day, and when you choose Help → Check for updates, Slipstream downloads a small file from slipstreamviewer.org that names the newest version. That is a normal web request with no account, avatar name or ID in it; like any web request it reaches our server with your IP address (see this website). You can turn it off in Preferences → Setup → Check for updates.
- Second Life. Like every Second Life viewer, Slipstream connects to Linden Lab's servers to log you in and run the world. That includes the standard viewer statistics report every viewer sends to Linden Lab, which names the viewer as Slipstream with its version. What Linden Lab does with that is covered by the Linden Lab Privacy Policy.
- Optional features. Some features talk to other services directly from your computer, only while you use them: web pages, media and marketplace content shown in the viewer; chat translation, if you set up a translation service with your own key; and Discord Rich Presence, which talks only to the Discord app running on your computer and doesn't share your avatar name or location unless you turn that on. These services have their own privacy policies.
Bug reports
You can report bugs without an account, from the viewer (Help → Report Bug) or with our report form. Nothing is sent until you press Send, and only what you see:
- In the viewer, the report window shows exactly what will be sent before you send it: your summary, description and steps; the avatar name you typed, if any; your viewer version, operating system, CPU, memory, graphics card and driver, and graphics settings; and the region you're in. A log excerpt and a screenshot are attached only if you tick them. The log excerpt keeps only system, graphics and warning/error lines: chat and instant messages are left out, and other people's names, IP addresses, web addresses with logins in them and login tokens are blanked out wherever the viewer can recognise them. The screenshot shows the world only, unless you choose to include the interface. After a crash the viewer offers to report it; it never sends anything by itself.
- On the website, only what you type into the form is sent.
- Where it goes. Your report goes to our report service on our own servers, which posts it as an issue on our issue tracker. Issues, and their attachments, are public and stay there until we delete them; ask on the tracker if you want one removed.
- What the service keeps. It doesn't store reports itself. Its log records only when a report arrived, its size, the result, and a scrambled form of your IP address that can't be turned back into the address. For abuse limits it remembers recent IP addresses and avatar names in memory for up to a day.
This website
This website uses no cookies, analytics or trackers. Like any web server, ours and our network provider (Cloudflare) may keep standard access logs, such as IP address, the page requested and browser type, for a short time to keep the site running and secure. We don't use them to track or identify visitors.
If you create an account on our code and issue tracker, it stores what you give it (username, email address and anything you post) so the account works. Posts on the issue tracker are public.
Donations
Donations on our support page are made in Second Life, in Linden Dollars. They go through Linden Lab like any other in-world payment: we see the payer's Second Life name and the amount, the same as anyone receiving L$, and nothing else. We don't take card or bank payments.
Changes and contact
If this ever changes, for example if we add an opt-in feature that sends data, we'll say so here and in the release notes first, and it will be off unless you choose to turn it on. Questions can go to our issue tracker.
