Poser¶
The Poser lets you pose avatars joint by joint, like a doll: yourself, your animesh, or any avatar near you. Poses are only seen by you, so photographers can fine-tune the people in their shot without anyone needing a pose stand or HUD.
Open it with Me → Poser.
Getting started¶
- In the list of avatars and animesh near you, select who you want to pose (the refresh button updates the list).
- Click Start Posing. Their current animation freezes in place so you can adjust it.
- Pick a joint from the body, face, hands or other joint lists, and turn it with the Rotate sliders (Up/Down, Left/Right, Roll), or drag the gizmo on the avatar. Show joint markers (settings) draws small dots to help you pick joints in the world.
- Click the same button again to stop posing and let them animate normally.
Set to T-Pose starts from a neutral T-pose instead of the current animation.
Handy tools¶
| Control | What it does |
|---|---|
| Mirror | Changes to one side are mirrored on the other side (left arm and right arm move as mirror images). |
| Copy | Changes to one side are copied to the other side. |
| Copy L > R, Copy R > L | Copy a finished side across once. |
| W, A, S | Rotate relative to the World, the Avatar or the Screen, instead of the joint itself. |
| Part(s) On/Off | Switch the Poser off for the selected body parts, so they keep animating normally (for example with an AO), while the rest stays posed. |
| Recap | For parts that are off: capture what they're doing right now. |
| Hand presets | Set Left / Set Right put the hand shape chosen in the presets list on that hand. |
| Position | Move the whole avatar Up/Down, Left/Right or In/Out. |
Saving and loading poses¶
Own Poses opens the list of your saved poses. Load one onto the selected avatar, or save the current pose. Pose files from Black Dragon load too.
Settings for saving:
- Write BVH when saving also writes a
.bvhanimation file, which you can upload as an animation (Build → Upload). Unlock Pelvis in BVH lets the hips move in that file. - Confirm Overwrite asks before replacing a pose with the same name.
Other settings¶
- Stop posing when closed: closing the window ends posing. Untick to keep the pose while the window is closed, if you're working on it for a while.
- Use natural alignment: makes joint rotations follow the direction of the bone, which is more intuitive than the skeleton's built-in axes.
- Enable DoF in Edit Mode: keeps depth of field on while you pose, for framing photos.
