Preferences: Graphics

Me → Preferences → Graphics has the quick graphics controls. For every individual setting, click Advanced Settings…; all of those are explained on Graphics & performance.

Option What it does
Preset in use The graphics preset you loaded last, or (None) if you've changed things since.
Quality & speed One slider from Low to Ultra that sets many graphics options at once. Left is faster, right looks better. Fine-tune afterwards in Advanced Settings….
Draw distance How far you can see, in metres (up to 4096). Lowering it is one of the quickest ways to speed things up.
Avatar display Limit by complexity: avatars above the complexity limit are drawn as simple solid shapes ("jelly dolls"). Always show friends: the same, but friends are always drawn fully. Only show friends: only your friends are drawn fully.
Avatar maximum complexity How visually heavy an avatar can be before it's simplified. Lower helps a lot in crowds.
Maximum number of animated avatars How many avatars get full treatment. Avatars beyond this number are still drawn, but cast no shadows, animate at a lower rate and switch to simpler mesh sooner, which saves a lot in crowds. Your own avatar always gets full treatment.
Exceptions… Avatars you've chosen to always or never draw fully (right-click an avatar → Appearance to set this).
Brightness (exposure) Overall brightness of the world.
Save settings as a preset…, Load preset…, Delete preset… Save and switch between your own graphics setups. Presets also keep your FPS limit and VSync. See Presets.
Reset to recommended settings Goes back to the settings Slipstream picked for your computer.
Automatic adjustments settings Opens the automatic adjustment options of the Improve graphics speed window (also in World → Improve graphics speed…). These tools come from the official viewer and aren't yet tuned for Slipstream's renderer; improvements are planned.
Advanced Settings… Every graphics setting. See Graphics & performance.

Known limitations

A few controls in Advanced Settings… come from the official viewer and currently have no effect in Slipstream's renderer: Post process quality, Max. nearby lights, Sky and HDR and Emissive. They are left out of Graphics & performance for that reason.
