Gesture Sets¶
If you use a lot of gestures, you probably don't want them all on at once: a set for clubbing, one for roleplay, one for work. Gesture Sets let you save groups of gestures and switch between them in one go, instead of ticking gestures on and off one by one.
Open it from Communicate → Gesture Sets… or Avatar → Gesture Sets…, or the Sets… button in the Gestures window.
Making a set¶
There are three ways to make a set (buttons under the Sets list):
- Save Current as Set: makes a set from the gestures that are active right now. The easiest way to start: set your gestures up the way you like, then save.
- Create Sets from Folders: makes one set for every inventory folder that has gestures in it, named after the folder. Handy if you already keep gestures sorted into folders.
- New: makes an empty set. Then tick gestures in the list on the right to add them.
Duplicate, Rename and Delete do what they say to the selected set.
Choosing which gestures are in a set¶
Select a set on the left. The list on the right shows your gestures, with a tick box in the first column for "in this set". Tick or untick gestures to add or remove them.
The list shows each gesture's Name, its Chat trigger, its Key (shortcut), its inventory Folder, and whether it is Active right now.
To find gestures quickly:
- Type in Filter by name, trigger, key or folder.
- Use the drop-down next to it to show All gestures, only Active or Inactive ones, In this set, Not in this set, or Unassigned (in no set).
- Check All Shown and Uncheck All Shown add or remove every gesture in the (filtered) list at once. For example: filter by a folder name, then Check All Shown.
Double-click a gesture to open it for editing.
If two gestures in a set would use the same chat trigger or the same key, a warning under the list tells you which ones, so you can fix the clash before it surprises you.
Applying a set¶
Select a set and click Apply, or double-click the set. A tick in the Sets list shows which set was applied.
Each set has its own mode, chosen with the buttons under the list:
| Mode | What applying does |
|---|---|
| Exact | Turns on this set's gestures and turns off every other gesture. |
| Add | Turns on this set's gestures and leaves your other gestures as they are. |
Use Exact for "swap to my club gestures", and Add for small extra sets you want to switch on alongside whatever else you have.
Quick swap from the status bar¶
With Show in status bar ticked (it is by default), a Gesture Sets icon appears at the top right of the screen, in the status bar. Hover over it to see your sets, and click one to apply it. Manage… opens the Gesture Sets window.
Good to know¶
- Sets are saved for each of your Second Life accounts separately, on your computer.
- Applying a big set takes a moment: gestures are switched in small batches so the region isn't flooded with requests. The window shows "Applying '…'…" while it works.
- Right after login the window may say "Loading inventory…"; sets can be applied once your inventory has loaded.
